Sandip was born into a family with a deep-rooted love for music. He was initiated into music by his mother, Smt. Krishna Bhattacharjee, at the age of four and continued his talim under Smt. Amita Dasgupta later. At the age of sixteen, Sandip began his talim at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy under the distinguished guidance of Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan and Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan, sons and disciples of the late legendary Sarangi Maestro Padmashree Ustad Shakoor Khan.
He began his studies at ITC-SRA as a residential scholar in 2003, and he was recognized as a musician at the school in 2013.
Sandip was trained under the Kirana Gharana's genuine Guru shishya parampara style of instruction by both of his gurus. Sandip has achieved a rare feat: he has fulfilled the potential and talent he has shown as a young prodigy. Sandip has become a recognized proponent of the Kirana Gharana gayaki style via his training and arduous effort, despite not being from the Kirana Gharana family heritage.
Sandip has a Bachelor's degree in classical music from Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata, where he received First Class First. He is also proficient at singing a variety of semi-classical styles like Bhajans, Ghazals, Nazrulgeeti, and other regional songs and pure classical music. He has shared the stage alongside Ustad Rashid Khan, Ustad Sultan Khan, Vidushi Girija Devi, Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, among others.

Sandip was born in Krishnanagar, a West Bengal neighbourhood around 100 kilometres (62 miles) from Kolkata. His parents fostered his musical skill from an early age. Sandip began his studies with his mother, Krishna Bhattacharjee, and then with Amrita Dasgupta. Sandip was 16 years old when a close family friend, Dr Basudeb Mondol, realized his potential musically and took him to ITC-Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata. Sandip began his Talim under the illustrious tutelage of Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan and Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan, sons and disciples of Padmashree Ustad Shakoor Khan, a sarangi musician.
